High blood sugar (hyperglycaemia) is where the level of sugar in blood is too high. It mainly affects people with diabetes and can be serious if not treated.

Cinnamon may help lower blood sugar by imitating the effects of insulin and increasing the movement of sugar from the bloodstream into cells.

It has been shown that cinnamon, which is rich in polyphenolic components, reduces oxidative stress and corrects impaired preprandial glucose if consumed 500 mg/dl a day for 12 weeks.
