Eurycoma longifolia

Eurycoma longifolia is a flowering plant in the family Simaroubaceae. It is a small tree with compound leaves on branches that can grow up to 1 m long. The numerous leaflets are opposite or sub-opposite, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 5-20 cm by 1.5 – 6 cm, with smooth margins.

The tree found throughout the jungles of Malaysia and Southeast Asia, goes by many names but commonly known as tongkat ali.

It is also called ‘Malaysian ginseng’ due to its energy boosting effects, affords a natural way to bring suboptimal testosterone levels back to within normal.

Then plant is used to cure indigestion and lumbago. It is used as a tonic childbirth, to relieve pains in the bone and for the treatment of jaundice, dropsy, cachexia and fever.

Tonics are health preparations used in Malay traditional medicine in Malaysia.  Eurycoma longifolia root is one of the main ingredients used in preparing these mixtures.

Water boiled with Eurycoma longifolia is believed to increase male virility.
